Mrs. K's Book Club Crew connects students with amazing literature combined with author visits thanks to Donors Choose.
With the help of the amazing Monticello Trails Middle School PTA and school families, Mrs. K’s Book Club Crew was able to meet their Donors Choose Project total of nearly $1000. Mrs. Amanda Ketterling submitted a proposal to be able to purchase two new books by author Elly Swartz and plan a live virtual author zoom, presentation and Q & A session with Elly.
The enthusiastic students jumped right in to start reading as soon as the books arrived.
At MTMS, Mrs. K’s Book Club was created for any 6th, 7th or 8th grader to join during their advisory time. The group has already doubled in size from first semester to second and has also grown exponentially with insightful book discussions.
Students are able to keep the books read in Book Club to add to their personal collections. With their own personal volume in hand, students can notate in their books, if they choose, to bring their thoughts and observations to Book Club which helps create a literature-rich environment.
When students move to middle school, the library can become a less frequented place. Promoting reading for pleasure is a challenge that many libraries face. One common goal is for ALL students to be able to find something they love to read.
